Pat testing is an integral part of any health and safety policy for office environments and all public used equipment and is the responsibility of the employer under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) that only equipment suitable for use is available.
The Health and Safety Executive estimated that 25% of all reportable electrical incidents involve faulty portable appliances. The level and frequency of testing is variable however a guideline from the IEE suggests the following:
